Mosaic Table

I have been looking for an end table to paint for almost a year.  I finally found one at a garage sale, which I purchased for $20.  The main thing I look for in furniture is character.  This was a really old style and ugly, but had great character and I thought I could really do something fun with it.
Of course, I wanted to paint this in all the bright colors I love.  Gregg had a great idea to do a mosaic on the top, since it already had the edge around the top.  I spent a lot of time looking up online how to do mosaic never having done it before.  I used fiesta dishes for my pieces.  Some of them I bought on ebay and a neighbor gave me a few pieces that she had and no longer wanted.  I learned how to smash them with a hammer - it was really odd to take a hammer to a perfectly good plate.  I think I used around 800 pieces.  I had some family advice on whether or not to do a design or just randomly place the pieces and they all said "do a design".  I won't tell you the problems I had with grouting, but I eventually got it figured out.  I am pretty happy with the outcome - actually I love it. I hope you do too!

  1. You did a great job on that mosaic! I definitely think that doing a design was the right choice, it looks so good.
