Recycled Bottle Cap Mosaic

Last summer I had this idea to use Ninkasi bottle caps for some kind of a mosaic project.  I love their logo and thought they would look really cool in a mosaic.  I asked all my friends to start saving their bottle caps for me.  I wasn't sure what I would do with them yet.

My first thought was to do a roof on a birdhouse with them.  But while visiting my daughter, Mackenzie, in Portland one weekend I saw that her boyfriend, Shaun, had a 'man cave' set up in their garage.  He was already saving his bottle caps for me and had no idea what I wanted them for.  I decided to do a sign for him that read "Happy Hour".  Also, knowing that he had a love for collecting watches I thought it would be a great addition to get some for the mosaic.  I set all the watches to 5:00 - happy hour!  I found most of the watches at garage sales, Mackenzie found some at an antique store and one was donated by a friend.  Wanting to keep with the idea of doing the project with all recycled materials I found an old picture frame we had that was heavy duty and painted it black.  I also found on Craigslist a ton of mirror that someone was giving away.  The only part I purchased new was the glue and grout.

I did make this project out of mainly the bottle caps given to me by Shaun to personalize it for him.  My next project with bottle caps with be all with Ninkasi.  This had a total cost of under $50.00.
